Heat Wave Safety Checklist In recent years, excessive heat has caused more deaths than all other weather events, including floods. A heat wave is a prolonged period of excessive heat, often combined with excessive humidity. Generally temperatures are 10 degrees or more above the average high temperature for the region during summer months, last for a long period of time and occur with high humidity as well. Read more... Heat Wave Info (PDF) Heat Wave Info - Spanish (PDF) New Jersey Forest Fire ServiceFire Danger AlertDivision B; This region covers Burlington, Monmouth, Ocean Counties and Middlesex County south of the Raritan River.Fire Danger: Very HighRecreational Permit Restrictions: Stage 2; Under this restriction, all fires will be prohibited unless in an elevated prepared fireplace, elevated charcoal grill or stove using electricity, or a liquid or gas fuel. An elevated prepared fireplace must be constructed of steel, stone, brick or concrete with its fire box elevated at least one foot above the ground surface and surrounded by at least a ten feet radius clearance to mineral soil. An elevated charcoal grill may be stationary or portable and surrounded by at least ten feet radius clearance to mineral soil. These restrictions will remain in effect until additional restrictions are needed or adequate rainfall is received.Currently no additional restrictions on open burning permits are in place; however, this may change as this drying trend continues.
